Bringing seafood’s stories to the surface

Seafood Industry Conference 2022

Collaboration is key when it comes to a sector as important to New Zealand as the seafood industry. It can also be fun – as seen in this photo from the 2022 New Zealand Seafood Industry Conference when Publik’s Emma Thompson joined fishing company communications leads on stage to challenge conference delegates to a quiz and a call to action – to be great communicators for seafood in their communities and professional networks.

From left, Emma Thompson (Publik Agency), communications gurus Michelle Cherrington (Moana New Zealand) Annabel Kemplen (Sealord) and Fiona MacMillan (Sanford).

The Publik Agency team is proud to be right behind the inaugural Seafood Saturday event, providing our creatives, PR strategists and storytellers to shine a well-deserved light on the seafood sector.

Not only is Nelson our hometown, we treasure our commercial fishing and seafood clients from across New Zealand.

We wouldn’t miss standing with them to celebrate kaimoana and the people who bring it to us, for the world. Seafood Saturday is also one of our own bright ideas, kept warm for a year and some months until hospitality and events were past the ‘COVID-19 effect’, and the Nelson flood waters dissipated.

And so now we are ready to say ‘let’s hear it for seafood’. To take a moment to acknowledge and enjoy the industry’s contribution to our communities, our economy, and global reputation for sustainable fishing and blue economy innovation.

Let’s do that over a delicious seafood degustation meal, with a fine Nelson wine, while the kids build their own fish burger, enjoy free fish and chips or get hands-on activities from the incredible Nelson Provincial Museum team.

As far as ‘work’ goes – this one’s a dream. Events are complex and you have to be methodical, grounded and tenacious as you work through the inevitable hiccups. But this one comes with a whole lot of love, for seafood and our clients with whom we share the vision for a greater understanding about how the healthy, tasty fish we love to buy, cook, choose from a menu, and reach for at special events is sustainably harvested.

See you at Seafood Saturday!
